Although Tent City ended a few days ago, I want to take the time to thank those young adults that did so much to put on a such a great week long event at UCF. Alot goes into planning for Tent City, and the students do it every semester, excluding summer. It is free and open to the public, and especially for the UCF community: Music, art, workshops, and community, etc.
Some don't appreciate what these great young people go through to put an event like this together. Yes, the student planners enjoy the outcome, but it is meant as a gift to the community as well. They are dismissed as peace loving hippies. If this is so, then count me in. They are intelligent, wise, and courteous. Yes, they say "excuse me" and "thank you" more than I hear older adults with suits and ties say it. This generation is less selfless and less introverted than the one before. They want to give and share. They are gracious hosts. It is time that the rest of us be gracious guests and support them for reaching out by coming to their events when we can.
So, words cannot express the thanks and appreciation I feel in my heart: Maddie, Lowen, Nicole, Stephanie, Francisco, and I know I'm missing so many more.
I am the luckiest person to know all of you!
